His start against the Houston Astros where he yielded three earned runs in four innings was better than the topline numbers suggest. He was getting hitters to swing and miss, but his control was shaky after a long layoff between the end of spring training and his first start of the year.

The 26-year-old pitcher help the Cincinnati Reds to just one earned run across six innings. Interestingly, he led with his sinker all game, leading to a lot of ground ball contact, while the curveball was not deployed as much as it has been in the past.
