The SF Giants (24-16) are looking to salvage the series against the Minnesota Twins (20-20). They will lean on young hurler Landen Roupp to get them back on track and leave Minnesota with a win.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Minnesota Twins, May 11
Overall, the topline numbers for Roupp have not been all that strong, as he has posted a 4.89 ERA across seven starts. He did have a strong outing against the Los Angeles Angels, where he held them to two earned runs across seven frames in a 3-2 win. Since then, he has yielded 13 earned runs across 13 innings in his last three starts.
The underlying numbers do suggest he has pitched better than his ERA would suggest. Opposing hitters have a .354 BABIP against Roupp in 2025. The league has a .288 BABIP this season, so that is a number the Giants do expect to improve over time. Generally, he is getting a healthy number of strikeouts, keeping the ball on the ground, and allowing home runs at a tolerable rate. That can be a recipe for success.
Roupp does have a 3.94 FIP and a 3.49 xFIP, both of which are pretty solid marks. I think he runs into where being a little too reliant on his sinker-curveball combination. He has a changeup and cutter, but often leans on the curveball when he needs to steal a strike. It has led to a predictable pattern, and hitters have picked up on it.
Who is hot for the SF Giants?
Heliot Ramos was the entire Giants offense on Saturday, collecting three of the team's four hits. He did record his sixth home run of the year, and doubled later in the game. Although, he did get picked off at third base. The young outfielder now has 10 hits in 28 at-bats in May.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants are facing off against 2023 All-Star Pablo López. López could be in line for another All-Star nod, as he has recorded a 2.18 ERA through six starts this year. He will mix in a mid-90's four-seam fastball with a changeup, sweeper, curveball, and sinker.
