The SF Giants (4-2) take on the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers (2-6) as the calendar turns to March. Carson Seymour will take the start for San Francisco.

This is Justin Verlander's turn in the rotation, but he will throw in a minor league game instead. Verlander and the Giants will face off against Los Angeles 13 times in 2025 during the regular season, so it is better to save his starts.

Seymour will take his place on the mound. The right-handed hurler was added to the 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The Giants quietly have some nice rotation depth, and while he is on the lower end of that, it does highlight that the club has quite a few reliable arms.

More than just about any Giants prospect, Seymour has built up his arm strength to handle a full season in the rotation. Last year, he posted a 4.82 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, and a 2.20 SO/W rate in 29 outings across 134.1 innings with the Sacramento River Cats. It marked the third-straight year in which he crossed the 100-inning threshold.

Who is pitching for the SF Giants?

The Giants also have Joey Lucchesi, Tristan Beck, Mason Black, and Trevor McDonald on today's lineup card. That does not mean all four will get into today's game. That will depend on how everyone throws. Lucchesi and Beck will be names to watch as they compete for spots in the Opening Day bullpen.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants will be facing off against righty pitcher Matt Sauer. Sauer pitched briefly for the Kansas City Royals in 2024, posting a 7.71 ERA in 14 appearances. He has pitched to a 4.37 ERA across seven minor league seasons.
