SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. A's, March 11

Before we start, there is a programming note. The game was originally scheduled for 6:05 PM PST, but was moved up because there is rain in the forecast.

On a sillier note, the Giants have the best record in baseball. Does that mean anything at all? What does recent history suggest? The Colorado Rockies finished in second place in the Cactus League with a 17-12 record and went on to lose 101 games during the regular season.

The two top teams in the Cactus League in 2023 were the Los Angeles Angels (18-11) and the Kansas City Royals (19-13). The Royals went on to lose 106 games, and the Angels were only slightly better with 89 losses. Having the best record in spring training is fun. It is much better than losing every game. It is not a predictor in any way.

Justin Verlander takes the hill for the Giants. He has completed six innings, allowing two earned runs on five strikeouts and one walk. The veteran pitcher also threw in a minor league game. The Giants will want him to get stretched out to 60 - 75 pitches.

Who is hot for the SF Giants?

Grant McCray filled out the stat sheet on Monday. He record two hits, including a double, in three at-bats with a walk and a stolen base in an 8-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. Overall, he has nine hits in 26 at-bats this spring.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants will be facing off against lefty pitcher Jeffrey Springs. Springs has a 3.39 ERA in seven major league seasons, most notably with the Tampa Bay Rays. He has pitched to a 1.42 ERA in 6.1 frames this spring.
