That's what will determine if he can stick.

Our 2026 Player Review series continues and today we will take a look at outfielder Victor Bericoto. In light of Heliot Ramos basically getting benched by the New York Yankees in the playoffs, it becomes even more clear why the SF Giants were comfortable trading him away when they got a taste of what Bericoto did in 2026.

He hit a mammoth walk-off homer which displayed both how far he can hit the ball and how he can come up in the clutch. After the trade and following his return from injury he looked great going up against Los Angeles Dodgers ace Tarik Skubal, one of the best pitchers in the game. In six plate appearances against Skubal he had three hits including a double, home run, and a walk.

In all, he ended the year hitting .241/.267/.420 with five home runs and 15 runs batted in. That’s a respectable campaign for a 24-year-old rookie, but they’re going to need more out of him next season.

Bericoto’s success didn’t come out of nowhere. He won the Barney Nugent Award back in spring training which usually goes to a young standout in Scottsdale and he was raking down in the minors which eventually led to a big league promotion in May.

His solo home run in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers which ultimately ended in a 1-0 victory for San Francisco was a highlight and he displayed a really strong arm in the outfield at times.

There were also rough moments too. He made some puzzling defensive miscues and forgot how many outs there were when he was in the bases so he looked like a Little Leaguer on occasion which is not a great sign and definitely reminds one of Ramos’ lower moments with the Giants, but one hopes he can grow out of some of those mistakes.

A bigger concern may be how swing-happy he was at the plate. He struck out 32 times and walked only four times. Bericoto is never going to be Brandon Belt up at the dish, but if he can show just a little more discretion in the pitches he swings at that is only going to help him be a better player.

Bericoto should have some sort of role with Giants in 2027

It’s interesting to think about what his role could be next season. Perhaps he could be a platoon bat and share time with Bo Davidson in left field to begin next season. He will have to really impress and have a Ramos-like breakout in 2024 if he wants to be an everyday player, but he is a good bat to have on the bench if you need a pinch hitter who can hit a ball out of the ballpark in the late innings.

He also offers some defensive versatility since he can play the corner outfield positions and first base which could come in handy at some point.

There’s no guarantee Bericoto will be a big part of the team’s plans next season, but he showed enough promise in 2026 that he should at least be given a chance. Still, he needs to clean up the mental errors and get on base at a higher rate if he wants to stick.
