SF Giants pitcher gets bizarre shoutout from Dallas Cowboys in schedule release video

Well, this was unexpected.

Every NFL team released its regular season schedule yesterday and if you follow the videos the teams release they certainly get creative. The Dallas Cowboys released theirs and dropped a reference to SF Giants pitcher Tyler Mahle in the video.

The still from the video can be seen below:

Many teams took aim at the San Francisco 49ers in their release videos for all of the wild theories about the electric substation near the team's practice facilities causing their injuries last season. According to the Cowboys video, Mahle is actually a secret agent for the Cowboys whose mission is: "Increase player paranoia related to electrical substation activities."

It seems like it could be a subtle dig at Mahle, possibly implying that his poor showings this year are evidence that the substation has struck again, but may have more to do with the fact that he pitched for the Texas Rangers last year so the joke is that he was sent by the Cowboys as a Texas operative to mess with another Bay Area team.

Cowboys video can serve as motivation for Giants' Mahle after uneven season

It’s a funny and random tidbit but with Mahle set to take the ball tonight against the Athletics maybe it can serve as motivation for the veteran pitcher.

His overall numbers for the Giants this season have not been perfect. He has a 1-4 record with a 5.18 ERA in 41 and 2/3 innings pitched. He has struck out 42 batters and walked 20 with opponents batting .263 against him.

In a weird quirk, he has alternated between having really bad and really good starts. In his first, third, fifth, and seventh starts he has allowed two earned runs or less and has looked very solid. But in his second, fourth, sixth, and eighth starts here are his earned run totals respectively: 5, 8, 5, 4. Going by that pattern he is due to have a good start on Friday night so let’s hope the trend holds.

The Giants were hoping for more consistency from Mahle after he had an impressive 2.18 ERA in 16 starts last season, but they got what they paid for. They gave him a one-year, $10 million deal and were hoping he’d be the best version of himself but his big league numbers suggested he’d be decent but not great and would probably spend a little time on the IL which is why it was not the most inspiring addition.

At least he has not spent any time on the IL so the substation does not appear to be hurting him the way that the conspiracists thought it was hurting the Niners last year, but maybe the Cowboys are right and it is impacting his pitching. There's a chance he won't be a Giant for much longer though as some rumors suggest he could be traded at the deadline.

In all seriousness though, it is funny that the Cowboys social media team gave Mahle a little shoutout and maybe it will serve as a nice little wink from the universe that he’s due for another good start.
