SF Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos got himself into some hot water recently after he made some comments that were perceived as taking a shot at the fans. He cleared those comments up ahead of Monday's game against the San Diego Padres.
The comments Ramos made that got people worked up were made in a San Francisco Chronicle article. He said that "the fans are against us" which definitely triggered some forceful reaction on social media given how poorly the team has played as of late.
However, Ramos clarified his remarks which were shared by Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area on social media:

SF Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos clarifies remarks made against fans
Ramos said that his comments were meant solely to show support for manager Bob Melvin who has been the subject of a lot of criticism given the team's play. Ramos said that he loves the fans and that he has a lot of positive interactions with fans, he just wanted to show support for his manager and show that feelings in the clubhouse are different than feelings amongst the fanbase for Melvin.
It is good that he tried to do some damage control with these comments because fans were understandably a little miffed that Ramos was perceived as taking shots when the team has not been putting a good product on the field as of late.
Ramos certainly did not let the mini-controversy bother him too much as he hit a leadoff home run in Monday's game against San Diego.
The outfielder has been one of the best hitters on the team this season, slashing .267/.340/.410 with 15 home runs and 53 runs batted in. Despite this, his defense has been a glaring liability pretty much all year and it has only gotten worse as of late.
He has been a very solid player for the Giants since last year when he was an All-Star. What he does with the bat makes it seem like the 25-year-old could be a fixture in the lineup for years, but he needs to figure out his defense so he can be a more complete player.
One hopes that him cleaning up his previous comments will prevent any backlash from fans. It is always good for a player to show support for their manager amidst a rough stretch, Ramos may have just been a little clumsy in the way he tried to articulate it.
