The SF Giants optioned two young pitchers, Carson Ragsdale and Carson Seymour, to minor league camp. We may still see one, or both, of these pitchers at some point in 2025 given they both looked solid in their spring outings.

The 26-year-old Ragsdale looked particularly impressive, not allowing a run in 4 and 2/3 innings pitched while striking out seven batters. At 6-foot-8, he would give Sean Hjelle a run for his money as the tallest guy in the clubhouse.

Last season in the minors, Ragsdale pitched in 27 games, starting 26 of them, while throwing 120 and 2/3 innings. He had a 4.18 ERA and struck out 147 batters. His high strikeout rate earned him a promotion to Sacramento last season. He seems likely to start the season in Triple-A and depending on how he fares, he could end up being promoted to the Giants if they are in need of starting pitching help.

Seymour had a respectable spring as well, with a 4.50 ERA in 4 innings pitched. In 134 and 1/2 innings with Sacramento last season as a starter he had a 4.82 ERA while striking out 132.

The Giants recently demoted another Carson, Carson Whisenhunt that is, so there are no more Carsons left in major league camp. Despite this, we are likely to see at least one of the Carsons on the Giants at some point this year.

As of right now, it makes more sense for them to start the year in the minors. The Giants have a plethora of starting pitching options, many of them with a lot experience at the big league level, so these younger arms probably need some more time to develop befire they are ready for the majors.

As things currently stand, Kyle Harrison, Landen Roupp, and Hayden Birdsong are all competing for the fifth spot in the Giants' starting rotation. No matter how things shake out, the Giants will at the very least have a lot of depth in the starting pitching department and will be able to call upon young fresh arms if needed to bolster the rotation.

Ragsdale and Seymour may be getting demoted, but they are still two young promising arms Giants fans should keep their eye on this season.
