SF Giants’ next Wall of Fame inductee should be extremely obvious

The SF Giants just had their Wall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend which enshrined Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Pablo Sandoval, and Joe Panik into Giants history. They are obviously all incredibly deserving and it was great to see the five of them together again, but the team’s next inductee should be obvious.

Tim Lincecum has not made an appearance at Oracle Park since 2019 when he showed up for Bruce Bochy’s final game as skipper and the reception he got then was truly electric. Giants fans know that he can be very reclusive and has had some things happen in his personal life that definitely warrant keeping out of the public eye for a bit.

It may be asking a lot and is obviously dependent on Lincecum being willing to do it, but he certainly belongs on the team’s Wall of Fame. He won two Cy Young awards and was a huge part of the 2010 World Series and also played a key role in 2012 even though he was used as a reliever that time.

With that wiry frame and one-of-a-kind delivery, the Freak won over the entire Bay Area with the way he went about things and how dominant he was on the mound. It’s tough to describe to those who didn’t watch him pitch at his peak, but his run as the ace of the Giants will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to have witnessed it.

Lincecum is owed more than just a spot on the Wall of Fame, though. His No. 55 jersey should obviously be retired. It’s already unofficially retired as no Giant has worn it since Lincecum left San Francisco but he deserves to have a full-on number retirement ceremony. It may be asking a lot to get him to show up to Oracle Park twice so maybe the Giants should shoot for a two-for-one by combining a Wall of Fame and jersey retirement ceremony for him.

Maybe they could do it in 2028 or 2029 as that would be twenty years after his consecutive Cy Young awards. Of course, Lincecum might show up if they did a 20-year reunion for the 2010 championship team in 2030 so they have to plan strategically. He has been spotted more in the Bay Area as of late so maybe there's a chance he shows up to multiple events.

Tim Lincecum is not the only Giant deserving of Wall of Fame honor

Madison Bumgarner is also eligible for the Wall of Fame and he too deserves that honor along with his No. 40 jersey being retired. He made an appearance at Oracle Park back in 2014 for the 10-year reunion of that World Series-winning club so he seems like he’d be willing to return where he was such a dominant force.

After they honor those two guys though there may be a a decent stretch where they go without any Wall of Fane honorees. It makes sense since the championship years have passed and the team hasn’t been all that competitive for the most part in the last decade.

A little nostalgia never hurt anyone though so the Giants would be wise to start trying to get Lincecum to make his return to Oracle Park where he will be greeted like an absolute rockstar which is more than fitting because of what he means to Giants fans.
