Every SF Giants minor league affiliate is off to a good start this year. This includes the Richmond Flying Squirrels, who got a boost to the lineup with Parks Harber returning. Unfortunately, it will be a while before Reid Worley makes his pro debut.
SF Giants minor league notes: Parks Harber returns, Reid Worley sidelined
1. Parks Harber returns
Parks Harber returned to game action for the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Friday night. He collected one hit in five at-bats in a 7-6 win over the Somerset Patriots.
Harber sustained a hamstring strain during the spring that kept him on the shelf for about six weeks. He was in the middle of an impressive Cactus League season before the injury, where he hit .357/.424/.571 with three doubles and one home run in 28 Cactus League at-bats.
The right-handed bat has been on a tear since being acquired in a five-player deal that sent Camilo Doval to the New York Yankees. He was on the injured list at the time of the injury, but was assigned to the Eugene Emeralds once he returned.
When Harber returned, he slashed .333/.454/.644 (196 wRC+) with seven home runs, 20 runs, and 24 RBI in 108 plate appearances. Overall, he put up a 174 wRC+ in 343 plate appearances last year, which was the second-best mark among minor league hitters with at least 300 plate appearances.
If not for an injury that sidelined him for two months in 2025, Harber would have likely reached Double-A before the end of the year.
2. Reid Worley is out for the year
This bit of news is not as promising. Reid Worley underwent Tommy John surgery and was placed on the full-season injury list.
Worley was a ninth-round pick by the club in 2025 out of Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. That pick had some buzz, as he throws a high-spin breaking ball. Worley's grip is a combination of a slider and a knuckle curve.
The pitching prospect committed to Kennesaw State, and their draft was tailored around having enough funds to be able to sway him from that commitment. His pick carried a slot value of $204,400, but he agreed to a massive overslot bonus of $747,500. At the earliest, Worley could be back on the mound in 2027. When he does return, that will be his first appearance on a pro mound.
