On Tuesday, the SF Giants faced off against Team USA. This presented a unique opportunity, as a handful of prospects, headlined by Dakota Jordan and Gavin Kilen, were loaned to the opponent and got to face off against their own team.
SF Giants loan handful of prospects in matchup against Team USA
How did the Giants do? Well, it might be best just to forget about this one. After all, they were playing against a team full of stars and future Hall of Famers. It went about as well as you would expect.
Team USA defetaed the Giants by a score of 15 - 1. In football, when the Giants lose by only two touchdowns, that is considered a win!
The Giants certainly did not win anything on Tuesday. It was a tune up game for Team USA before they face off in the World Baseball Classic.
Adrian Houser was tagged for two runs in three innings of work. Blade Tidwell yielded five runs in 2.2 innings, and Matt Gage allowed five runs, including four unearned runs, while recording just two outs.
Patrick Bailey recorded an RBI groundout to score Willy Adames in the bottom of the first inning. Paul Skenes was on the mound, and that is about as tough of a challenge as a hitter can face, especially in spring training. I would simply call out sick from work if I had to face Skenes in a spring training game. That swing of the bat by Bailey proved to be the only offense of the day.
The Giants loaned Team USA a handful of prospects, many of whom made an appearance later in the game. Dakota Jordan. Gavin Kilen, Zack Morgan, Charlie Szykowny, Lorenzo Meola, Scott Bandura, RJ Dabovich, and John Michael Bertrand.
A few of them even added some insurance runs for Team USA. Szykowny, Kilen, and Jordan all had RBI hits later in the game to increase the lead. Dabovich was the only pitcher the Giants loaned to make it into the game. He recorded one out to help Team USA get through the sixth inning.
Kilen was the club's first round pick in 2025, and Jordan was a fourth round pick in 2024. Both prospects are considered some of the better ones in the farm system. Szykowny launched 21 home runs for the Eugene Emeralds last season. They are all in the Giants system, but they can now say they have faced off against their own club in an exhibition game.
