The SF Giants' depth on the 40-man roster has taken a hit. Justice delos Santos of The Mercury News shared injury updates on Christian Koss, Grant McCray, and Gregory Santos.

SF Giants injury news: Christian Koss, Grant McCray, and Gregory Santos

1. Christian Koss to be evaluated in a couple of weeks

Christian Koss sustained a left wrist fracture and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. This continues a tough season for Koss.

The versatile infielder made the team out of spring training after a strong showing in the Cactus League. However, manager Tony Vitello has struggled to leverage the bench, and this left several players, including Koss, without much playing time.

The right-handed bat tallied just 15 plate appearances in six weeks before being optioned back to Triple-A. He also appeared in two blowout games on the mound. Since returning to Triple-A, Koss has recorded four hits in nine at-bats.

2. Grant McCray to undergo surgery

Grant McCray suffered a broken hamate bone. The recovery timeline ranges from four to eight weeks, which means that he is a candidate to be transferred to the 60-day injured list.

The left-handed bat has made strides in bringing down his strikeout rate and bringing up his zone contact rate, but it has not translated to his topline numbers just yet. He was hitting .237/.360/.370 (98 wRC+) with four home runs, 28 RBI, and 38 runs in 211 plate appearances with the Sacramento River Cats.

It feels like the 25-year-old outfielder is buried on the depth chart. The Giants have given opportunities to Drew Gilbert and Will Brennan. They have also promoted Victor Bericoto and Jonah Cox to the major league roster while McCray was still in Triple-A.

3. Gregory Santos will be out a few more weeks

Lastly, Gregory Santos is dealing adductor strain. He has been on the injured list since the end of May. Justice delos Santos reports that the recovery timeline is two to three weeks.

The Giants added Santos to a minor league deal in the offseason. He made a strong case to break camp with the club, but was one of the last players to be reassigned to minor league camp.

Since then, the Giants have added Santos to the 40-man roster. He made three appearances, allowing one earned run in five innings of work.
