Whether you were following the World Baseball Classic (WBC) on Saturday night or not, there is a good chance that you caught a Luis Arráez highlight. The SF Giants middle infielder collected four hits, including two home runs, in an 11-3 win over Israel.

Arráez also collected two doubles in the win. He might have been helped out on one of those doubles by fellow teammate Harrison Bader. The left-handed bat lined a ball to center field that crossed up Bader for a moment and landed for a double.

By the time Arráez launched his second home run of the game, he knew it. That swing of the bat gave Venezuela a 10-2 advantage, and they never looked back. In the very early going, he is tied for the lead among all WBC hitters in home runs, and is tied with Bo Gyeong Moon of South Korea with seven RBI.

You want to know who is in a three-way tie for second place in RBI? That would be former Giants outfielder Stuart Fairchild. Fairchild has tallied six RBI in the tournament, tying him with Shohei Ohtani and Masataka Yoshida. He only collected eight plate appearances with the Giants in 2022.

Arráez has not been known for power in his major league career. Across seven seasons, he has hit only 36 home runs. The high watermark came in 2023, when he hit 10 home runs for the Miami Marlins.

In addition to this, Arráez only has one multi-homer game to his ledger. This came in a 9-6 win over the Atlanta Braves near the end of the 2023 season.

While power has not been characteristic of Arráez's major league career, he has hit for a bit more power in the WBC. Over his last seven WBC games, he has tallied three doubles and four home runs.

The Giants are hoping that Arráez can save some of those for the regular season. While they may not expect him to hit for much power, the veteran bat showed that he is certainly capable of lifting the ball over the fence.

The Giants signed the 28-year-old hitter to grind out at-bats and put the ball in play. If the early returns are any indication, the Giants might be one of the tougher teams to strike out in 2026. The addition of Arráez should go a long way in helping in that category.
