The pitching matchups for this weekend's highly anticipated series between the SF Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers have been announced and one name is missing for Los Angeles: Blake Snell. This means Giants fans cannot boo him this season.
Snell took the ball on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies so that means the Giants are going to face Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw, and Tyler Glasnow. The Giants will miss both Snell and Shohei Ohtani.
SF Giants cannot boo Blake Snell this season
Snell has yet to face San Francisco since opting out of his contract with the Giants and signing with the Dodgers in free agency this past offseason. He has spent a lot of the season on the IL and only returned somewhat recently for the Dodgers. Giants fans are all too familiar with Snell's penchant for injury from the first half of last season before he turned it on and was dominant in the second half of 2024 for San Francisco.
While Snell has only made nine starts for the Dodgers this season, he has been really solid. In those nine starts he has a 2.79 ERA in 48 and 1/3 innings pitched. He has 55 strikeouts compared to 23 walks and a 1.39 WHIP.
Snell's last start against Colorado was masterful as he went six innings and recorded 11 strikeouts compared to two walks while allowing two hits and no runs. LA's six-man rotation as a whole has been dominant as of late so the Giants are going to have their work cut out for them even though their offense has gotten red-hot the last few weeks.
It is a shame that Giants fans will not get the chance to boo Snell at Oracle Park this season, though. As disgusting as it was when he signed with the Dodgers, it was at least nice to imagine boos raining down upon him as he took the mound in San Francisco. He could still likely face the Giants later this month in Los Angeles when the two teams will meet in a four-game series in Los Angeles, but it will not be the same.
Alas, Snell has a five-year contract with the Dodgers so he is bound to pitch at Oracle Park at some point. When he does, it will be incredibly satisfying when Giants fans let him hear it for joining the Dodgers.
