After adding Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle, the SF Giants still have plenty of holes to fix, but will they? Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that they already done most of their heavy lifting this offseason.

When the offseason began, the Giants had several needs to address. This included the rotation, bullpen, and right field.

To some degree, they have addressed the rotation and bullpen. Houser and Mahle will join Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Landen Roupp in the rotation. Outside of Webb and Ray, that unit is light on volume, so they will need to rely on their younger pitching depth to fill the gaps.

This could create an opportunity for Hayden Birdsong, Blade Tidwell, and Trevor McDonald. With a strong finish to last season, McDonald may be one of the first names called if and when an injury to the rotation occurs.

The Giants have also made additions to the bullpen, including Sam Hentges and Jason Foley. Both joined on major league deals. Foley will be out for the first half of the year, as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. Hentges could pitch his way into a leverage role.

The Giants have also made several smaller bullpen moves, such as adding Gregory Santos, Nick Margevicius, and Caleb Kilian on minor league deals. This will continue to be a popular area to tinker with the bullpen.

That said, the Giants do not have much of a blueprint for how they plan to preserve leads and close out games. If the season began today, Ryan Walker and Joel Peguero would likely be competing for the closer role. Walker is coming off a down year, and Peguero flashes premium velocity but does not miss a ton of bats.

The bullpen was a liability at the end of last season, and it would be difficult to suggest that they have made meaningful improvements this winter. This unit is typically the most fluid part of any roster, so a lot can change between now and the start of the season. Perhaps, a couple of relievers who are not currently with the organization will pitch their way to prominent bullpen roles in 2026.

Lastly, right field remains an issue. The Giants have several options, including Drew Gilbert, Luis Matos, and Jerar Encarnación. No one from that group has played well enough to earn an everyday role. It would be a misstep by the organization to not do something more to address this spot in the lineup.

The Giants checked off some boxes this offseason, but there are still plenty more to address. If the heavy lifting is done, it would be a rather disappointing finish to an offseason that needed the Giants to be more aggressive.
