On Wednesday, the Cy Young Awards were revealed, with Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates taking home the award in the NL. SF Giants ace Logan Webb earned a fourth-place finish.
SF Giants ace finishes in fourth place in NL Cy Young voting
Skenes was viewed as the frontrunner for the award, and received all 30 first-place votes. He pitched to a 1.97 ERA in 32 starts this season. Incredibly, Skenes has a 1.96 career ERA in two seasons with Pittsburgh.
Cristopher Sánchez of the Philadelphia Phillies finished in second place, receiving all 30 second-place votes. The southpaw pitcher posted a 2.50 ERA in 32 outings this season.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Los Angeles Dodgers finished in third place. He received 16 of the 30 third-place votes.
Logan Webb and Freddie Peralta split the remainder of the third-place votes. Webb earned 10 third-place votes, while Peralta received four.
In total, Webb received 47 points in the NL Cy Young voting. He just edged out Peralta, who earned 44 points.
It caps off another strong year for the Giants’ ace. This was the fourth-straight year he received Cy Young consideration, and it marked the second time he finished in the top-5 in the voting. The first time came in 2023, where he finished in second place behind Blake Snell. Those two shared the same clubhouse in 2024.
Webb recorded a 3.22 ERA, 2.60 FIP, 1.23 WHIP, 9.7 K/9, and a 4.87 SO/W rate in 34 starts. He finished in third in the NL with 5.5 fWAR.
The 28-year-old hurler led baseball by making 34 starts and completing 207 innings. He led the NL with 224 strikeouts.
Webb continued to effectively pitch to contact by keeping the ball on the ground and in the ballpark. However, he demonstrated a noticeable spike in his strikeout rate, as he leaned more on his sweeper as his primary secondary pitch. Webb continued to rely on his changeup as well, and his four-seamer was effective when thrown.
The veteran pitcher fell short in the Cy Young voting, but took home some hardware in 2025. He, along with Patrick Bailey, earned the NL Gold Glove Award at pitcher and catcher, respectively.
