Cam Maldonado is in his first full season as a pro, and he already has some recognition to his name. The 2025 SF Giants draftee was recognized as the April 13 - 19 California League Player of the Week.

They drafted him in the seventh round of last year's draft out of Northeastern University. Northeastern University was a popular spot for Giants scouts leading up to that draft, as Maldonado was one of three players from that school. The others were Jordan Gottesman (sixth round) and Cooper McGrath (18th round).
While the Giants targeted contact skills, Maldonado brings more of a well-rounded skill set to the table. There is a little more swing-and-miss in his profile, as he posted an 18.8 percent strikeout rate in his final college season. That said, it was not an unusually high rate. He offsets that with good power and a knack for reaching base at a high rate.
Plus, Maldonado can steal a bag. He has nine steals in 11 chances in only 30 career games at the pro ranks. He can do a lot of things well on the baseball field.
That was on display last week, as the San Jose Giants took on the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. they secured the series victory, winning four games out of six. This is also a reminder that minor league affiliates usually only play one opponent each week for a six-game series to minimize the travel time.
Maldonado played a key role in that series victory. He slashed .476/.542/1.429 with six home runs and 10 RBI in 24 plate appearances. This included two, multi-homer efforts. The second came in Sunday's 8-6 win, and Maldonado led the change with five RBI on the day.
Overall, the 22-year-old prospect has a 1.123 OPS with six home runs and 14 RBI in 51 plate appearances for San Jose this year.
San Jose won the California League title in 2025, and they have another strong roster this year. Maldonado has been a big contributor on offense, along with Jhonny Level, Junior Barajas, and Jeremiah Jenkins.
On the pitching side, Argenis Cayama has anchored the rotation while not issuing a walk in 2026. They are 11-4 to start the year.
