The Spring Breakout game is a nice opportunity for baseball to grow the game by highlighting some of the top prospects. This will be the second year in a row that baseball has done it. If you are keeping score at home, the Giants' Spring Breakout game was rained out last year.

They are slated to take on the Texas Rangers on March 15. Infielder Sebastian Walcott headlines the Rangers' roster. He is not only their top prospect but also among the top prospects in baseball according to every publication. MLB Pipeline has him rated at No. 17.

The Giants' roster has plenty of intrigue beyond the top picks. They have a lot of younger talent including Rayner Arias, Jhonny Level, and Diego Velasquez. Arias received a $2,697,500 signing bonus in 2023 but his pro career has been slowed by wrist injuries.

Level was one of the top signings by the Giants in 2024 with a signing bonus just under $1 million. He is coming off a really strong year in the Dominican Summer League, where he slashed .275/.393/.517 (140 wRC+) with 10 home runs, 46 RBI, and 44 runs in 215 plate appearances. This includes a 14.0 percent walk rate, 16.7 percent strikeout rate, and .242 ISO. The 17-year-old prospect has quickly emerged as one of the team's top prospects.

Velasquez has hit at just about every level in his brief pro career. He started the year in High-A but was promoted to Double-A and registered a .313/.389/.374 line (125 wRC+) with one home run, 20 RBI, and 14 runs in 170 plate appearances with the Richmond Flying Squirrels in his age-20 season. The Eastern League is a tough challenge for any hitter, but Velasquez did more than just tread water against much older competition.

Some other notable names include Aeverson Arteaga, Sabin Ceballos, Dakota Jordan, and Will Bednar. After missing most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to back injuries, Bednar made 32 appearances across three levels.

His control is very much a work in progress but he struck out 76 batters in 54 innings last year. The more encouraging news is that he was able to stick on the mound and get some innings under his belt.
