The SF Giants made the decision to cut ties with veteran first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. on Tuesday. While the move was more than justified based on his struggles, let's take a look at some of the best moments from his time as a Giant.
Best moments in LaMonte Wade Jr.'s SF Giants career
It is easy to allow recency bias to taint one's view of Wade's tenure with the Giants. It was simply tough to watch Wade in 2025 with his dismal slash line of .167/.275/.271. However, we should not allow that to make us forget that he had some truly memorable moments in a Giants uniform.
100th Splash Hit
Definitely one of the coolest moments in Wade's Giants career was when he hit the 100th Splash Hit by a Giants player out into McCovey Cove. What made it even cooler was he did it on the very first pitch of the game.
It is a nice feather in Wade's cap that he was the one to hit the 100th and it is a moment that will be replayed on Giants broadcasts for years to come.
LaClutch Home Run vs. A's
Wade earned a reputation for clutch hits during the magical 2021 season. He had six game-tying or go-ahead hits in the 9th inning that year which earned him the nickname "Late Night LaMonte."
While there are plenty of clutch hits to choose from, the one that sticks with me most was his go-ahead homer against the Oakland A's in August of 2021. The Giants trailed 5-4 entering the 9th inning and Wade was called upon to pinch hit for Darin Ruf. He blasted a two-run homer down the right field line to give the Giants the lead and led to a victory.
It was a moment that was emblematic of the enture 2021 season when seemingly everything went right for the Giants as they took down the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League West.
Homer over his mom
Wade had another memorable Splash Hit in 2022 when he ripped a ball over the arcade in right field where his own mother was watching. It was an awesome moment that both he and his mother will have forever.
The end of Wade's tenure with the Giants did not go how he had hoped, but that should not sully the fact that Wade was a really good Giant and had some truly memorable moments in San Francisco. Let's hope he lands on his feet somewhere and can get back to being a solid player.
