On Wednesday, the Arizona Fall League (AFL) clubs published their rosters. The SF Giants extended invites to eight prospects to play for the Scottsdale Scorpions, including recent trade acquisition Parks Harber.
Recent trade acquisition headlines group of SF Giants prospects invited to AFL
The Giants are one of five teams to feed the Scorpions' roster. The other teams include the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, New York Mets, and Washington Nationals. If you have not been to the AFL, I would highly recommend it. Arizona is a beautiful place in October, and the AFL is a great spot for baseball nerds.
Ricardo Estrada, Spencer Miles, Ryan Murphy, Jose T. Perez, and Juan Sánchez round out the pitching side of the group sent by San Francisco. Harber is joined by Maui Ahuna and Walker Martin on the position player side.
The AFL is usually a great experience for prospects who missed time during the regular season. This is the case with many from the Giants' contingent.
The Giants acquired Harber at the trade deadline in a deal that sent Camilo Doval to the New York Yankees. He missed nearly two months of the regular season before returning in early August. Since then, the right-handed bat has been on a tear at the plate.
Harber is a corner infielder, but he has been seeing time in the outfield lately. Perhaps, that experiment will continue in the AFL, with Scottsdale being relatively light on outfielders.
Maui Ahuna underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024 and returned midway through this season. He posted an .823 OPS with five home runs and 36 RBI in 274 plate appearances split across three levels in the lower minors. Ahuna has been on the injured list since early August.
Walker Martin had a promising season with San Jose, as he displayed some of the raw power that made him a second-round pick in 2023. He had a .737 OPS with 12 home runs and 70 RBI in 482 plate appearances. While he has not missed much time this year, the Giants want him to continue getting live reps.
On the pitching side, Juan Sánchez will be a name to follow. He underwent Tommy John surgery last season but has not returned to the mound yet. Sánchez is eligible for the Rule 5 draft, so this might be an opportunity for the Giants to evaluate him before that decision needs to be made.
Spencer Miles was a fourth-round pick by the club in 2022, but has seen minimal time on the mound due to injuries. He has a 4.30 ERA with 22 strikeouts and five walks in 142 frames as a pro.
