SF Giants take 2 of the remaining top college bats in Day 3 of MLB draft
No. 478 - P Tyler Switalski
In the 16th round, the Giants added lefty pitcher Tyler Switalski. Switalski pitched to a 5.10 ERA with 58 strikeouts against 38 walks in 67 innings. He pitched for two seasons previously at Gardner-Webb University.
Switalski throws from a three-quarters arm slot. He mixes in a four-seam fastball that gets late, armside movement with a changeup and a curveball.
No. 508 - Pitcher Hunter Dryden
Pitcher Hunter Dryden went to the Giants in the 17th round. He spent four years at Whitworth University where he posted a 3.17 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.6 K/9, and a 2.32 SO/W rate. This includes a 2.10 ERA in 12 outings this season. Dryden has a mid-90's fastball.
Interestingly, Dryden was a two-way player earlier in his college career. However, he appeared to have given up on being a position player as he recorded just 28 plate appearances in 2024.
No. 538 - P Ryan Slater
Pitcher Ryan Slater had a 6.70 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 49.2 innings for the University of Florida. He did face off against some of the better competition in college while pitching in the SEC.
On the mound, the right-handed pitcher has a low-90's fastball some carry through the zone that he mixes with a slider that gets some two-plane movement.
No. 568 - P Ryan Ure
The Giants added a power arm in Ryan Ure out of Oklahoma State University. Ure missed the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He returned briefly in 2024 where he allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings during the college season. He did have a 2.89 ERA in 9.1 inning in the Cape Cod League this summer.
Ure is a towering presence on the mound with a 6-foot-8 frame. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot and mixes in a high 90's fastball that can reach up to 103 MPH with a slider.
No.598 - C Fernando Gonzalez
Last but not least, the Giants added a catcher in Fernando Gonzalez. Gonzalez spent four years at the University of Georgia where he registered a .261/.348/.439 line. In 2024, he recorded an .896 OPS with nine home runs.
The right-handed bat has some pullside power, but he was recognized for his defense and leadership in college.
