At this point, everyone is well aware that the San Francisco Giants, along with the rest of the league, is in a holding pattern waiting for Shohei Ohtani to decide where he is going to play. He is about to sign the biggest deal in baseball history and his free agency is the most anticipated choice we have seen in modern times. What a time to be alive.

The Giants have remained in the hunt for Shohei throughout the offseason. San Francisco has been desperately looking for a star to add for a few years now and the Giants' lineup really could use his bat in 2024 and beyond. The Dodgers, Blue Jays, Cubs, and Angels have been hot and heavy after him as well, so nothing is certain yet.

However, the reports now are that Shohei's decision could come as soon as today and there is at least one report that the Giants have a really good chance of ending up landing him.

Are the SF Giants the current favorites to sign Ohtani?

Mike Rodriguez isn't typically the source of this sort of information, but he has had good information in the past on signings and there is nothing typical about how information has gotten out about Ohtani this offseason. It is also important to note that the Blue Jays have had a lot of momentum over the last week or so.

If San Francisco were able to pull this off, it would be arguably the biggest signing in franchise history. Going into the offseason, most were predicting that he would command a contract of around $500 million, but some have even suggested that he could comfortably clear that despite having elbow surgery in 2023 that will keep him off the mound for all of next season.

We will all know soon enough as to where Shohei will sign. Whether he signs with San Francisco or not, the next few days are shaping up to be wild.
