The SF Giants have taken two of the first three games of the series against the Washington Nationals. They will now rely on young lefty Kyle Harrison to clinch the series win on the road and very early in the morning.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Washington Nationals, August 8
Harrison's first full season with the Giants has been mostly promising. However, he is a 22-year-old pitcher and not a finished product yet. When he is right, he is mixing in his four-seam fastball, changeup, and slurve for strikes. However, there have been games where he has been relying too much on his fastball. It can work, but it is hard to be successful in the long run.
Overall, Harrison has posted a 4.09 ERA in 19 starts in 2024. He would like to forget his last outing where he yielded six earned runs on four home runs in 3.2 frames in a 6-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
Who it hot?
After a modest cold spell, Heliot Ramos seems to be heating up again. The 2024 NL All-Star has tallied four hits, including a home run in each of the last two games, in his last 10 at-bats. Ramos has been battling a thumb issue, but it does not seem to be affecting his power.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants are facing off against lefty DJ Herz. Herz has had a quality rookie season with a 4.27 ERA, 4.12 FIP, 1.25 WHIP, 11.5 K/9, and a 4.54 SO/W rate in 10 starts. He will record a healthy number of strikeouts but is prone to the long ball as well. He has allowed nine home runs in 46.1 frames. The Giants have never faced Herz before and that always seems to be a tough challenge for this lineup.
