The SF Giants dropped the first game of the series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night by a score of 2-1. They were hitless in 10 at-bats with runners in scoring but they look to get back on track with ace Logan Webb on the bump.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Tampa Bay Rays, April 13
Webb has made three starts on the year. Both of his starts against the San Diego Padres were solid but he struggled through 3.2 innings against a star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers lineup on April 2.
Overall, Webb has a 4.86 ERA, 3.19 FIP, 1.56 WHIP, 7.0 K/9, and a 3.25 SO/W ratio through three starts. Oddly, he has induced a ground ball in only 44.6 percent of batted ball events in 2024, down from a career mark of 58.0 percent. That is likely a function of a small sample and should begin to trend up over time.
The Giants are off to a slow start to the year. With a 5-9 record, they currently sit in fourth place in the NL West. After an offseason in which they were one of the more aggressive teams in baseball, they had hoped for a better start but there is still plenty of time to turn it around.
That said, the offense has done the team no favors recently. They have not hit a home run in seven straight games and have been looking at far too many strikes. The Rays have tabbed young hurler Ryan Pepiot as today's starter.
