While it has been a disappointing season overall, there have been some positives to come from it. The one that sticks out is how they have committed to a young movement in many cases. Birdsong is one of the benefactors of that.

The rookie pitcher began the year in Double-A, earned a midseason season promotion to Triple-A, and was added to the Giants roster after two starts with the Sacramento River Cats. On the year, he has posted a 4.66 ERA in 15 starts with the Giants. There have been some ups and downs along the way, but he has built up some good developmental experience. Birdsong has been a bit sharper in his last few starts and looks to finish the year strong.

Who is hot?

Let's take a moment to reflect on Tristan Beck. After missing much of the season after undergoing surgery address an aneurysm in his pitching arm, the righty pitcher since returning to the Giants. He has a 1.69 ERA in 16 frames with San Francisco. This includes four innings of one-run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Just making it back to the mound after a scary injury like that has been refreshing to see.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants will be facing off against Michael McGreevy. McGreevy has pitched sporadically for the Cardinals, but the results have been solid. In three appearances, he has tallied a 2.40 ERA with 12 strikeouts and two walks. The 24-year-old pitcher throws in the zone, but does not strike out a lot of hitters nor does he give away free passes.
