Giants manager Bob Melvin confirmed on Sunday that Black would be taking the rubber in the series finale on Monday afternoon. The rookie pitcher is not currently on the 40-man roster, so the Giants will need to make a move to add him to it and then the active roster.
Black returned to Triple-A to start the year and quickly proved that he was one of the best pitchers in the Pacific Coast League. In six starts, he registered a 1.01 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 9.8 K/9, and a 3.63 SO/W ratio with the Sacramento River Cats.
Who it hot?
Typically, we go with hitters in this segment, but the offense is in the midst of a prolonged slump. On the other hand, Sean Hjelle recorded two scoreless innings with six strikeouts on Sunday night. It was his third straight appearance in which he has not allowed a run.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants will face off against Zach Wheeler. The hard-throwing righty has a 1.91 ERA through his first seven starts of the year. This feels like a must-win game for San Francisco, but to do so, they will need to go up against one of the best pitchers in baseball.
