The SF Giants dropped the first game of the series against the Philadelphia Phillies in agonizing fashion. They had plenty of opportunities to score but were uncharacteristically sloppy on defense. They will look to Keaton Winn to right the ship.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Philadelphia Phillies, May 4
Winn has been a pleasant surprise in the early going. He has a 3.18 ERA with 28 strikeouts against 10 walks in 34 innings. This includes one of the highest ground ball rates in baseball at 60.2 percent. He does not strike out a lot of batters, but getting them to hit the ball into the ground is the next best outcome.
The 26-year-old pitcher is coming off of a solid start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he allowed one earned run in a 3-2 victory last Sunday. He will be tested with facing one of the better hitters in the game in Bryce Harper.
Who it hot?
The overall numbers may not be there yet for Thairo Estrada, but he is stringing together good at-bats. He has recorded a hit in five of his last six games. This includes two hits in Friday night's loss against the Phillies.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
Ranger Suárez is on the bump for Philadelphia. He has been one of the better pitchers in baseball, posting a 1.32 ERA through his first six starts. It would have been swell if the Giants had taken the first game because this will be a tough challenge.
