The SF Giants will take on the Miami Marlins for the second game of a three-game series in Miami. They won the first game by a score of 4-3 and will look to Jordan Hicks to help them string together a couple of wins in a row.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Miami Marlins, April 16
The Giants are off to a sluggish start but a series win against a Marlins club that is one of the worst in baseball is a step in the right direction. The Giants have lost three of the first five series and that is an area where they'll need to show improvement soon.
On the other hand, Hicks is not off to a sluggish start. He has been one of the better pitchers in baseball through the first three turns of the rotation. The Giants signed him to a four-year, $44 million pact in the offseason with turning him into a starter after spending much of his major league career in the bullpen.
The hard-throwing pitcher has shown that he can throw enough strikes to be able to stick in the rotation. In 2024, he has posted a 1.00 ERA, 3.19 FIP, 0.83 WHIP, 6.5 K/9, and a 4.33 SO/W ratio in 18 innings of work. This includes a 56.3 percent ground ball rate.
Miami will be going with southpaw Ryan Weathers as their starter. He has a 2.57 ERA with 12 strikeouts against eight walks in 14 innings. Giants hitters will need to be patient against the 24-year-old pitcher.
