The SF Giants hope to scratch a win against the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers after dropping the first game of the series on Monday night. They will need to rely on Keaton Winn to help them get there.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, May 14
Winn is coming off two brutal starts, so this one will be important. Unfortunately, it will not get any easier since he will be facing a Dodgers lineup that features Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman.
The young pitcher was not able to make it out of the first inning two starts ago against the Philadelphia Phillies. He allowed five earned runs while recording two outs before being removed from the game. Winn got off to a nice start in his last outing, but yielded seven earned runs in 3.2 frames. Coors Field can be a tough challenge on pitchers.
Overall, the 26-year-old pitcher has 5.63 ERA, but this comes with a 4.15 FIP and a 3.76 xFIP, so perhaps he is not pitching as bad as his ERA would indicate. The Giants need him to turn it around one way or the other.
Who it hot?
Luis Matos blasted a three-run homer against the Dodgers on Monday night. He had just a .663 OPS with three home runs in 143 plate appearances with Sacramento. He was not tearing it up in the Pacific Coast League, but he had a nice swing against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants are facing off against Gavin Stone. Stone was a fifth-round pick by Los Angeles in 2020 and has been regarded as one of the better pitching prospects in baseball since then. He has a 3.55 ERA in seven outings in 2024. The righty pitcher allowed three earned runs in 4.1 frames in his lone outing against San Francisco.
