The SF Giants dropped the first game of the series against the Boston Red Sox. They will tab Erik Miller as the starter with Daulton Jefferies serving as the bulk innings reliever to help get back in the winning column.

Miller has quickly become a reliable reliever in Bob Melvin's bullpen. He has a 5.54 ERA in 13 appearances. The numbers may not show it, but Melvin is using him more in leverage spots.

Jefferies returns after being used as a spot starter against the San Diego Padres earlier in the year. He yielded nine runs, including five earned, in two innings in a 13-4 loss against the Padres in that start.

The Red Sox were late in submitting their lineup due to the last-minute signing of first baseman Dom Smith. He is in today's lineup.

Who it hot?

The Giants offense has gone cold over the past few games. Despite taking the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, they only scored nine runs in three games. With being shut out on Tuesday, that is now nine runs spread over four games. That is not ideal.

One reliable bat could be heating up. Thairo Estrada has tallied six hits in 22 at-bats over his last seven games despite going hitless on Tuesday night. This includes three extra-base hits, so he is beginning to drive the ball more. Estrada got off to a rough start and the lineup needs him to be more like the hitter he was in 2022.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants will be tasked with a tough challenge on Wednesday. Kutter Crawford will toe the rubber for the Red Sox. He is leading Boston's strong pitching staff with a 1.35 ERA, 2.20 FIP, 1.11 WHIP, 9.2 K/9, and a 3.09 SO/W ratio through his first six starts. If the Giants are going to have a chance to win this series, they will need to do it against a pitcher who is throwing the ball well right now.
