SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, September 23
The Giants have seen some promising flashes from a handful of young pitchers in 2024 including Birdsong, Kyle Harrison, Landen Roupp, and Mason Black. Both Black and Roupp recorded their first major league win over the weekend while Birdsong is looking to finish the year on a positive note.
The right-handed hurler has posted a 4.74 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 38 walks in 62.2 frames with San Francisco this year. The control will need to take a step forward in 2025. However, Birdsong put together a couple of solid starts in his last two outings. He allowed three earned runs in 5.2 frames against the Baltimore Orioles last week with the final run being given up by the bullpen.
Who is hot?
Matt Chapman returned from paternity leave over the weekend and responded with two home runs in a lopsided 9-0 victory. The right-handed bat has posted a .927 OPS with five home runs and eight RBI in the final month of the season.

The Giants are facing off against veteran pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez. Rodríguez has missed time with a shoulder injury but he has pitched to a 5.09 ERA in eight starts in his first year with the Diamondbacks. He has allowed one earned run in six innings in just one career start against San Francisco.
