SF Giants probable pitchers and starting lineups vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, May 13
This is an important series for the Giants. They are coming off of a much-needed series win against the Reds over the weekend. They are very banged up right now which is not ideal when facing a team as talented as the Dodgers.
The Dodgers are coming off a series loss against the Padres in San Diego but are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Their star player Shohei Ohtani is tearing it up right now and is slashing .352/.423/.667 with 11 home runs and 27 RBI. Oh yeah, and their other superstars Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are also playing as well as expected.
For the Giants, 4 players who were in their Opening Day lineup are currently on the IL. This includes Jung Hoo Lee who dislocated his shoulder in yesterday's game and may be out for quite a while. This has given a chance for young players like Heliot Ramos and Luis Matos a chance to show what they've got. Thus far Ramos has looked great this year in a small sample size on both offense and defense. He will look to keep it up with several Giants outfielders currently injured.
Who will be the starting pitchers?
The first game of this series should be a great pitching matchup on paper. The Dodgers will go with one of their two major free agent additions this offseason, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He has been great in his 8 games started thus far, posting a 2.79 ERA in 42 innings pitched.
The Giants will go with arguably their best pitcher this season in Jordan Hicks. His first big league season as a starter has gone great. In 8 games started he has an ERA of 2.30 in 43 innings pitched. The experiment to transfer him from the bullpen to the starting rotation has worked amazingly thus far.
Hicks is going to have a tough test going against a Dodgers lineup that seemingly has no weaknesses. He did not face the Dodgers when they swept the Giants in Los Angeles at the start of April, so this will be Hicks' introduction to the storied Giants-Dodgers rivalry.
