The SF Giants have sustained a lot of injuries lately. Specifically, their starting rotation has been marred by injury. However, they did just get some good news on several of their injured starting pitchers.

The Giants have had bad luck on the injury front lately. This has been felt most acutely in their starting rotation. As a result, the Giants have had to lean heavily on a trio of starters to carry them and eat up innings. This has also put a lot of stress on their bullpen which has had to eat up a lot innings as well.

The news is not all bad, though. The Giants got some positive news on several of their starters which suggests that perhaps they will get some help in their rotation soon. There were also some updates on injured position players, but we will start with the pitchers.

Blake Snell

Blake Snell was the biggest free agent signing for the Giants and he has been the most disappointing. He has been injured a lot and when he has been on the mound he has been a far cry from the version of himself that won a Cy Young last year. He still has a chance to turn things around, though. His current injury does not seem as serious as his adductor strain earlier in the season. He has a left groin strain and is rehabbing in Arizona. He threw out to 75 feet on Wednesday and will throw on flat ground this weekend. The Giants need him back as soon as possible.

Alex Cobb

The veteran righty Alex Cobb has had positive and negative injury news seemingly every other week this season. Early in the year he was reportedly ahead of schedule but then he had a setback. Now things look better as he is throwing out to 110-120 feet so his shoulder injury appears to be getting better. The Giants could certainly use his veteran presence in the rotation.

Tristan Beck

Beck was projected to be in the starting rotation this season, but he had a scary injury with an aneurysm in his arm which has put him on the shelf for a while. It is encoiraging to hear that he is throwing out to 120 feet. The Giants probably want to be very careful with his rehab, but it would be great if the Giants could get him back in the second half as either a 5th starter or a reliever.

Robbie Ray

The Giants traded for Ray in the offseason knowing that he would most likely not be able to pitch until the second half. It appears he is on track to do so as he is scheduled to throw 2 innings in an ACL game today. The Giants could definitely end up leaning on him heavily in the second half, especially if some of their younger arms in the rotation get tired.

Austin Warren

The Giants signed Autin Warren as a reliever earlier in the year. He is recovering from left UCL surgery and will throw an inning in an ACL game today.

Now, let's take a look at the injuries for the position players.

The Giants have been unfortunate to lose several key position players as well. Let's see how they are doing.

LaMonte Wade Jr.

Losing Wade Jr. really hurt for the Giants. He has been such a key contributor on offense with his ability to get on base and deliver clutch hits. He also is underrated with his abilities on defense. He is currently nursing a hamstring injury. He has begun his rehab in Arizona and has begun to throw and hit. The Giants are hopinng they can get him back towards the end of June or in early July.

Nick Ahmed

The Giants have cycled through a lot of different shortstops since Ahmed injured his wrist. While Ahmed does not do much with the bat, he is. certainly the best defensive shortstop that the team has. He has resumed full baseball activities in Arizona so we may see him back in the big leagues not too far from now. As of right now it seems like Casey Schmitt would be the most likely candidated to be sent down to make room for him.

Marco Luciano

One of the players the Giants had replace Ahmed was Marco Luciano. He struggled defensively and eventually injured his hamstring. He is currently continuing all baseball activities, but it is fair to wonder when we will see him in the big leagues again. His shaky showing this season may make the Giants keep him in the minors to develop further.

Tom Murphy

Catcher Tom Murphy injured himself in a rainy and sloppy game in Philadelphia. He is continuing to rehab from that left knee sprain, but the Giants are probably content with their catching combo right now of Patrick Bailey and Curt Casali so they may not rush him back.

There are the injury updates for the Giants. Let's hope they can get some of these guys back soon.
