SF Giants fumble to a 4-2 loss in series finale against the Rockies
The game got off to a bad omen for the SF Giants. Austin Slater lined a leadoff triple and he was stranded there as Wilmer Flores, Mike Yastrzemski, and Darin Ruf failed to get him home.

We should have known that this was going to be a tough game. However, the Giants quickly rebounded after consecutive RBI hits from Thairo Estrada and Austin Wynns.
That said, things fell apart quickly in the fourth inning as the Giants committed a pair of errors and misplayed a couple of more batted balls that were ruled as hits. Logan Webb had to labor through that inning and managed to get through it while allowing just three earned runs.
This was a rally that was crafted by the defense. Webb did not allow a batted ball with an exit velocity above 96.3 MPH in that inning, so the Rockies were gifted a rally without truly hitting the ball well. Webb took the loss, but he deserved much better than that.
Tyler Rogers came in for the seventh inning and allowed an insurance run to give the Rockies a 4-2 advantage. It felt like one of those games where a two-run deficit felt insurmountable to overcome.
It is unfair to really compare this team to the 2021 team, but there were few moments with last year's team where the Giants felt completely out of any game. This team has a different identity and is dealing with a lot of injuries, so the hope is that some of these issues balance out over time.
The Giants managed to scratch just two runs across the plate against Austin Gomber, who had a 6.54 ERA before today's game. That was a theme in this series as the Giants faced off against three beatable pitchers in Gomber, Antonio Senzatela , and Germán Márquez .
This was a series where it felt like the Giants should have recorded at least two wins, if not a three-game sweep. So, mustering just one win is a disappointment.
On the bright side, Austin Wynns registered two hits and threw out a potential base stealer in his debut with the Giants. The Giants face off against a very tough opponent in the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. It would have been nice to begin the series with a couple of extra wins.
