The SF Giants have been busy pursuing star outfielder Aaron Judge this winter. Since his visit to San Francisco two weeks ago, the San Francisco Forty Niners are undefeated. I am not superstitious but I think Judge should just stay, so that the good vibes keep coming. On Sunday, the Niners also received a surprise visit by SF Giants manager Gabe Kapler.
SF 49ers had a surprise visit from the SF Giants on Sunday
Kapler helped energize the fans while wearing a Christian McCaffrey jersey at Levi's Stadium in preparation for a critical game against the 8-3 Miami Dolphins:
The Niners have been on a roll lately but it did not hurt to have the Giants manager in attendance as well. San Francisco defeated the Dolphins with ease by a score of 33-17. They moved to 8-4 while securing first place in the NFC West.
Of course, it was not all good news. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a broken foot that will require season-ending surgery according to Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan. Second-string quarterback Brock Purdy came in and completed 25 of 37 passes to lead the Niners to a victory.
It should be an eventful couple of days for the Giants and Kapler as the Winter Meetings begin in San Diego on Monday. They run through Wednesday with the Rule 5 draft usually signifying the end of the meetings.
All 30 teams send a handful of representatives to the meetings. Kapler should be included in that bunch as the Giants have a lot of holes to fill on the roster. Kapler will be entering his fourth season as the Giants' manager in 2023.
He took home Manager of the Year honors in 2021 after the Giants put together a historic 107-win season while clinching first place in the NL West. The Giants faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, losing in five games.
The Giants followed that up with an 81-81 season. The roster struggled in a lot of areas, so the front office has a lot of work to do. The next few days will likely set the tone for the Giants with Kapler and the front office leading the way.
