Logan Webb made his 2023 debut on Monday afternoon at “home” against the Angels, opposing Patrick Sandoval. Per the usual spring training rev-up period, Webb only pitched two innings, faced nine batters, and gave up four hits, one each against Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, and two earned runs, both coming on a two-run home run by Luis Rengifo.

After the game, Webb had this to say regarding his adrenaline-filled spring training debut (h/t KNBR): “I just kind of rushed a little bit with my mechanics,” Webb said. “Couple arm-side misses. Whenever I’m doing that, I kind of know. Sometimes I expect that, since it’s the first one, you’re super excited.”

The Giants scored four runs in the fourth off Jamie Barria. Brandon Crawford led the scoring barrage, knocking in Thairo Estrada with a single. Next, Heliot Ramos singled, knocking in one of the newest Giants Stephen Piscotty. This was followed by Ramos stealing second, and then Crawford being able to score from third on the attempt. Finally, Casey Schmidt doubled, which knocked in Ramos. It was 4-2 San Francisco after four innings.

In the fifth, two more runs were added on. A Carter Williams single scored Logan Wyatt (who had three walks on the day), and later in the inning, Tyler Fitzgerald doubled, scoring both Joc Pederson (who had previously walked) and Williams. It was 7-2 good guys after 5. The Angels kept trying to chip away and were able to score four more in the last four innings. However, the Giants were able to hold them off, even tacking on one more run themselves via a wild pitch in the eighth, and won 8-6.

San Francisco used eight different pitchers, as Webb was the only one to go more than an inning, and some notable lines include:

Keaton Winn, who earned the win; 1.0 IP, 1 K, 0 H

Sam Delaplane; 1.0 IP, 2 K, 0 H

Aaron Fletcher, who earned the save; 1.0 IP, 2 K, 0 H

Notable hitting performances:

Wyatt; 0-0, 3 BB, 2 R

Fitzgerald; 1-3, 2 RBI

Crawford; 1-2, 1 RBI, 1 R

The victory puts the Giants record at 2-1, with Cactus League play continuing on Tuesday against a familiar NL West foe in the Padres. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 PST, with Alex Cobb pitching against San Diego’s Jay Groome. Also scheduled to pitch in the game, per Alex Pavlovic, are Ross Stripling, and Taylor and Tyler Rogers.
