The Giants are hanging on to its National League Wild Card positioning, but need to find its footing at the plate in order to stay inside the postseason picture.
The Giants have dropped seven of 10 games and now are less than two games ahead of the Cubs and Reds for the final Wild Card spot. The team will hope to get back on track after losing 10-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays at home on Monday night.
Here are the odds for Tuesday's matchup, featuring Jakob Junis of the Giants facing off against Zack Littell of the Rays.
Rays vs. Giants odds, run line and total
Rays vs. Giants prediction and pick
The Giants offense is in dire conditions at the moment. The team is hitting .204 over the last 30 days, per MLB.com, the worst mark in the big leagues but has gotten by with its pitching prowess. The team will hope that Jakob Junis can provide some help on the mound, who has operated in a relief role for much of this season but has started over 100 games in his big league career.
Junis may have a 4.36 ERA this season, but that's backed by a 3.86 xERA in 64 innings. The Rays had a scorching start to the season, but that is a distant memory. The team was tops across the big leagues in nearly all hitting stats through the first two-plus months of the season, but since June 1st is hitting at a league average rate and the team is just 32-31.
The team will hope that former Giants reliever Zack Littell can put together a strong start as an opener for the Rays. While he has an average ERA of 4.10, he does a good job of putting himself in dangerous situations by walking about one batter per nine innings.
I can't trust the Giants offense yet given its form of about a month now, I'll take the under.
