The SF Giants recently traded away top prospect Joey Bart to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He had gotten off to a great start with his new team, but he recently was the victim of a freak injury as he got hit in the head by a home run ball during batting practice.

It should be noted that Bart still almost played despite this injury, but it is still a scary one nonetheless. Any time that a player gets hit in the head, there is very real concern about concussions. Giants fans saw first baseman Brandon Belt deal with concussions during his time in San Francisco which affected him off the field as well.

First and foremost, let's hope that Joey Bart makes a full recovery from this. He was off to a great start with his new team as he had 4 hits in his first 10 at-bats with two of them being home runs. It seemed as if he was starting a new page in his career with a fresh start. Let's hope that this is just a small blip and that it does not derail his season.

Unfortunately, it is just the latest instance of bad injury luck throughout Bart's career. Back when he was playing for the San Jose Giants in 2019, he suffered a broken hand on a hit by pitch which set him back for some time as he had to recover.

The pandemic in 2020 also meant that Bart did not get another season to develop and was sort of thrown to the wolves in the big leagues as the Giants searched for more offense.

Injuries and bad luck affect all players, but it seems as if Bart in particular was bit by the injury and bad luck bugs throughout his career.

One can only hope that this is just a minor setback for Bart and he will get back to performing well once he is healthy. Bart deserves a little good luck in his career for once so let's hope he gets some soon, as long as it doesn't come when he's playing against the Giants.
