The Giants push for a National League Wild Card spot continues at home against the Cubs.
San Francisco dropped the first game of a three game set against Chicago on Friday, 3-2, but will hope to get one back on Saturday night with right hander John Brebbia on the mound against struggling veteran Kyle Hendricks.
San Francisco's offense has been dynamte over the last two weeks or so, will it keep up at home?
Here are the odds for Cubs-Giants:
Cubs vs. Giants odds, run line and total
Cubs vs. Giants prediction and pick
The Giants offense has been the catalyst to the team's surge up the standings, 21-15 over since May 1, and the team continues to hit well, top half of the league in all major hitting metrics. While the team strikes out at a high rate, that's not an issue against the soft tossing Hendricks, who is striking out about two batters for every walk doled out.
However, I'm in on the Giants due to the pitching matchup. San Francisco will send out Brebbia in hopes he can get some better variance in the field of play. The right hander has been striking out more than 12 batters per nine innings, but he hasn't been able to get timely outs as opponents are hitting .310 on balls in play this season. Brebbia has an xERA that is nearly a run lower at 2.72 vs. his actual ERA of 3.65.
Over the past two weeks, the Cubs have been the worst team at the plate, hitting .186. Hendricks won't keep down the Giants lineup that is hitting well, while Brebbia will get a well deserved strong outing and keep the Cubs sputtering lineup down.
