Cubs vs. Giants prediction and odds for Friday, June 9 (Back San Fran to Keep Winning)
The Chicago Cubs will head out to California for a three-game weekend series with the San Francisco Giants that begins tonight. These are two teams seemingly headed in opposite directions after the week that they have both had. San Fran swept the Rockies to get to 32-30 while the Cubs got swept by the Angels and have now lost four in a row to fall to 26-36.
For Game 1 of this series the Cubs will try to stop the bleeding with Marcus Stroman on the mound against Anthony DeSclafani. Stroman is 6-4 with a 2.39 ERA while DeSclafani is 4-5 with a 3.97 ERA.
Even with their ace on the mound, the struggling Cubs are underdogs on the road in San Francisco tonight.

Cubs vs. Giants prediction and pick
When it comes to starting pitchers, rarely does a guy have a FIP over a run higher than their ERA for long. That’s the case with Marcus Stroman right now and the reason is that the ERA almost always rises to match it. Stroman comes into this start with a FIP of 3.49 and his expected ERA is even worse at 3.69. His last two outings he has not given up only one run over 15 innings including a complete game one-hit shutout against Tampa Bay, but he is due for a rough outing and it might come against San Fran tonight.
The Giants have a top 10 offense this year by OPS and are 13th in terms of run scored. Over the past week, Lamont Wade Jr. and JD Davis have been raking for the Giants with 16 combined hits and eight combined RBI, split evenly down the middle, in six games.
The Cubs want to end their losing streak and they have the right man on the mound to do it, but I’m fading him coming off two incredible starts and I’m back San Francisco because they come into this series winners of three straight and four of five.
