The SF Giants do not have too many glaring needs on their roster, but there is certainly room for improvement. If the team were to trade for shortstop Willy Adames, they would also be thwarting the plans of the hated Dodgers.

Theoretically, the Giants could improve at the shortstop position. They have cycled through several players after Nick Ahmed got injured. Right now, Brett Wisely has been playing great both offensively and defensively at the shortstop position. However, if he cools off before the trade deadline the Giants may be forced to reevaluate their options at shortstop.

One name that has come up in potential trade scenarios is Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames. Adames has history as a power hitter, blasting 31 home runs in 2022, 24 homers last season, and he already has 11 so far this season. The Giants could definitely use that extra pop in their lineup.

The only problem is that Adames is likely to have other suitors. One of those suitors may very well be the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers have a need for a shortstop and Adames could be a good option for them as well.

It is important to point out that the Brewers may not be sellers this year. They currently have a 6.5 game lead in the NL Central so there is a good chance that they hold onto Adames even though he will be a free agent after this season. They would also probably be reluctant to help the Dodgers out in any way since they could be a future competitor in the playoffs.

But perhaps the Brewers view the Giants as less of a threat. Maybe they decide that they have a more pressing need on their roster than shortstop so they decide to deal Adames to the Giants. In all likelihood, the Giants would have to give up at least one player that could help the Brewers immediately. They might have to give up a package consisting of Marco Luciano and Alex Cobb or something like that which may not be willing to do.

But if the Giants could get Adames and thwart the Dodgers, a team that has beaten them out for free agents several times, it may be worth it just to be a thumb in the eye of their rivals down south.
