3 SF Giants players you may have forgotten were on the 2022 Opening Day roster
2. Infielder Luke Williams
Williams, another light-hitting utilityman, squeaked onto the roster after performing well in a limited spring showing and thanks to injuries to Tommy La Stella, Evan Longoria and LaMonte Wade Jr.
He went four-for-12 (.333) in five games during spring after his acquisition from the Phillies and was essentially added to the Opening Day roster out of necessity as most of the other options had just gone on the injured list.
Once the regular season rolled around, Williams lasted just eight games with his new club. He registered three hits in 12 at-bats (.250) and had an OPS+ of 63 before being traded to the Miami Marlins in May in exchange for infield prospect Hayden Cantrelle.
Despite his brief tenure, the right-handed bat was likely responsible for one or two wins early in the 2022 season. Following the trade, Williams registered a .235/.290/.313 line (72 OPS+) with three home runs, 11 RBI, and 20 runs in 124 plate appearances.
Despite the limited offensive production, proved to be a versatile glove as he appeared at multiple positions including second base, third base, and left field. Williams joined the Los Angeles Dodgers on a minor league deal this past winter.
