3 absolute untouchables for the SF Giants ahead of the trade deadline
3. C Patrick Bailey
I had a very real fear that after Buster Posey left we could see the same sort of revolving door that has plagued the Giants in left field ever since Barry Bonds left but instead at the catcher position. Thankfully, it did not take the Giants very long to find their catcher of the future in Patrick Bailey.
In his young career, Bailey has impressed with both his glove and his bat. Last season it was his defense that really shone while hit bat cooled off more and more as the season wore on.
This year, he has remained solid defensively while producing even more with the bat. He is currently hitting .283/.354/.430 with 7 home runs and 31 RBI. We will have to see if he can sustain those numbers or if he will have a drop-off like last season.
So long as he does not completely fall off a cliff offensively, Bailey is clearly the future catcher for the Giants. He provides value on both sides of the ball and has really done a great drop handling the pitching staff as a young catcher. That is the kind of value you cannot afford to lose.
The Giants may be active at the trade deadline, but if they are they simply cannot afford to part ways with Webb, Ramos, or Bailey.
