The SF Giants are in an odd position ahead of the trade deadline. Sitting just below .500, there are arguments to be made for selling or buying. However, no matter what they do these 3 players should absolutely be untouchable in trade talks.

3 absolute untouchables for the SF Giants ahead of the trade deadline

With a week and a half to go before the trade deadline, it is not clear what the Giants are going to do. This next week of play may determine a lot. If they come out of the gates in the second half hot and looking like the best version of the team from the first half, perhaps the front office will believe enough in the team to take a swing on a big trade.

On the flip side of that coin, if the team struggles and plays uninspired baseball the team may decide to sell off veteran players as Farhan Zaidi has threatened to do.

No matter what path the Giants take, there are 3 players on the team they should not trade under any circumstances. Let's take a look at these 3 players.

1. SP Logan Webb

This one is pretty obvious. Logan Webb is the undisputed ace of the pitching staff and has become the leader of the team. He just got his first All-Star nod and is having another really solid season. He has become one of the most reliable and consistent pitchers in the game.

While teams would certainly be interested in Webb, he is just too valuable to the Giants to let him go. Plus, the Giants would be taking a major risk on unknown prospects who have yet to prove themselves in the big leagues like Webb has.

The Giants have Webb under contract until 2028 and it would be wise for them to keep him until the end of that deal if they can as long as he remains this consistent. With how injured and uneven the rotation has been the last two seasons, having that reliable workhorse ace is so valuable in today's game. He must remain a Giant.

Now let's turn to the next untouchable Giant.

2. CF Heliot Ramos

Many fans would have been surprised before the season to see Heliot Ramos considered untouchable in trade talks. Until this season, he seemed very much like he was going to be a bust.

Thankfully for both him and the Giants, he has turned things around this season. Ever since he was called up on May 8th, he has torn the cover off the ball hitting .298/.365/.523 with 14 home runs and 46 RBI. This performance earned him an All-Star nod which was very well deserved.

The Giants have not had a homegrown outfielder show this much promise in a long time. Ramos is absolutely someone the team should build around going forward. Next season we could very well see a youthful outfield of Jung Hoo Lee, Ramos, and Luis Matos. If everything goes perfect that could be a pretty formidable outfield for the rest of the decade.

Some teams could certainly show interest in Ramos, but the Giants must turn them down. Ramos is far too valuable to the future of the team. Now let's turn to another invaluable player on the roster for the Giants.

3. C Patrick Bailey

I had a very real fear that after Buster Posey left we could see the same sort of revolving door that has plagued the Giants in left field ever since Barry Bonds left but instead at the catcher position. Thankfully, it did not take the Giants very long to find their catcher of the future in Patrick Bailey.

In his young career, Bailey has impressed with both his glove and his bat. Last season it was his defense that really shone while hit bat cooled off more and more as the season wore on.

This year, he has remained solid defensively while producing even more with the bat. He is currently hitting .283/.354/.430 with 7 home runs and 31 RBI. We will have to see if he can sustain those numbers or if he will have a drop-off like last season.

So long as he does not completely fall off a cliff offensively, Bailey is clearly the future catcher for the Giants. He provides value on both sides of the ball and has really done a great drop handling the pitching staff as a young catcher. That is the kind of value you cannot afford to lose.

The Giants may be active at the trade deadline, but if they are they simply cannot afford to part ways with Webb, Ramos, or Bailey.
