2 playoff teams that will regret not trading for SF Giants ace at the trade deadline

2. New York Yankees

Admittedly, many playoff teams are in the same boat where they generally have a quality rotation. The New York Yankees are no different.

They did not need to add another starter. They have a 3.77 rotation ERA in 2024, which is the seventh-best mark in baseball. Interestingly, they are two spots ahead of the Baltimore Orioles in that category.

The Yankees have several quality rotation options. Gerrit Cole remains the ace of the staff followed by Lucas Gil, Clarke Schmidt, and Nestor Cortes. Even Carlos Rodón is having a nice finish to the season.

However, the expectations in New York are always sky high. With Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in the lineup, it is championship or bust at this point.

In baseball, it is difficult to deal with those lofty expectations. While it is already a solid rotation, adding one of the best starters in Blake Snell will only help you reach those expectations.

Teams only go as far as the rotation takes them. The Yankees' rotation looks poised for a deep playoff run but with how Snell is throwing, they might have been even better prepared for a playoff run.

It is a moot point now. It might be too little too late. While the Orioles look like they made the biggest whiff at the trade deadline, the Yankees could have benefitted from a Snell addition as well.
