There was some hot news on Tuesday as it was announced that top SF Giants prospect Bryce Eldridge was being promoted from Double-A Richmond to Triple-A Sacramento. Buster Posey's comments on the promotion should open some eyes.

Eldridge has done well in Double-A this season. In 34 games he has slashed .280/.350/.512 with seven home runs and 20 runs batted in. The 6-foot-7 slugger hit an impressive home run recently and has displayed his power with regularity.

SF Giants top prospect could debut with Giants in 2025

President of baseball operations Buster Posey spoke about Eldridge's promotion and left open the door for the 20-year-old to make his big league debut with the Giants in 2025. Posey said that the situation is fluid and that the Giants want to do everything they can to win, so it would not come as a huge shock if Eldridge made his debut later this year.

Coming into the season, it seemed like the Giants would try to play things cautiously with Eldridge. The Giants made a habit under the previous regime of rushing top prospects through the minor leagues which largely proved to be detrimental in the case of Joey Bart and Marco Luciano.

However, circumstances can certainly change things. The Giants are struggling badly on offense and they have really struggled to get any sort of production at the first base position this year. LaMonte Wade Jr. has had an awful year, Casey Schmitt has not done a ton offensively, and we will have to see if the Giants end up using the recently returned Jerar Encarnacion at first base a lot.

If the Giants continue to get poor production at first base and Eldridge starts to hit the ball well in Triple-A, then he may just force Posey's hand. The Giants do not want to rush him up too quickly, but they also want to capitalize on the amazing pitching they have benefitted from.

Posey is no stranger to being a young prospect called up by a team in desperate need of offense. The Giants called him up in 2010 and the rest is history as he led the team to its first World Series title since moving to San Francisco and then did it two more times for good measure.

If Eldridge is called up this year, there will be a lot of pressure on him to perform. It may be unfair, but that is what comes with the territory when you are a top prospect on a team with a bad offense. Many people would surely love to see Eldridge debut this season though, so Posey's comments leave the door wide open for that possibility.
