The Sacramento River Cats also swept the Reno Aces in a six-game series. They had an odd scheduling quirk, where the first three games of the series took place at Sutter Health Park, and they finished the final three games at Greater Nevada Field.
Minor league series are generally six games, and take place in one location to minimize travel. However, the River Cats and Aces had to shift gears with the Giants and A's facing off in Sacramento over the weekend.
There was a lot of offense for the River Cats. Luciano led the way with a career day at the plate on Sunday, belting two home runs with seven RBI in a 15-13 win over the Reno Aces.
Last week was arguably one of his best stretches since debuting with Sacramento in 2023. The right-handed bat recorded seven hits, including five extra-base hits, with 12 RBI in 18 at-bats. Four of those extra-base hits left the ballpark.
Overall, Luciano is slashing .229/.344/.441 (104 wRC+) with 16 home runs, 46 RBI, and 54 runs in 355 plate appearances. His 16 home runs lead the organization at the moment. Luciano continues to post above-average exit velocities, but has struggled to find consistency at the plate.
On the mound, Kai-Wei Teng is putting together a strong 2025 campaign with Sacramento. He made one start last week, recording five shutout innings with 11 strikeouts and only one walk in a 3-1 win over the Aces.
Teng has had no problem racking up high strikeout totals. In fact, his 606 strikeouts lead all minor league pitchers since 2021. However, he is also second with 267 walks during that stretch.
The right-handed pitcher has shown improvement in that area. He has tallied a 3.2 BB/9 rate, down from a 4.5 BB/9 mark across seven minor league seasons.
Overall, Teng has a 4.54 ERA, 3.05 FIP, 1.15 WHIP, and a 4.40 SO/W ratio in 22 appearances, including two starts, with Sacramento. If he continues to throw like he has, he will continue to see time in the rotation.
