The SF Giants announced that they exercised Bob Melvin's team option for 2026. The decision was met with excitement from both Matt Chapman and Logan Webb.

When the Giants originally hired the veteran manager, he received a two-year deal with a team option for a third season. After Melvin's first season at the helm, the Giants did not pick up that option right away.

However, that changed on Monday, as they avoided any distraction that might have surfaced with Melvin entering the final months of a potential lame-duck season. Instead, the Giants reward him after starting the year stronger than expected.

Logan Webb told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area that "Everyone in this clubhouse has his back the whole time." On the other hand, Chapman believes that Melvin's option decision was well deserved.

Chapman has a longstanding relationship with the Giants skipper. He has appeared in nine major league seasons, seven of which have been with Melvin as the manager.

The veteran third baseman spent his first five seasons with Melvin as the manager in Oakland before reconnecting last season. Chapman has been campaigning for Melvin for months, and might be his biggest supporter.

On the other hand, Webb provided an interesting nugget about how the team views Melvin. Rarely does a manager have unanimous support, as Webb indicates. However, Webb has a good pulse on the team and speaks authentically.

Melvin is in his 22nd season as a manager. He currently sits at 1,642 career wins, with an outside shot at 2,000 wins if he has a successful run with San Francisco.

On the year, the veteran manager has led the Giants to a 45-41 record. Prior to this season, that would have been the sign of a successful first half. However, the Giants have gone 1-7 in their last eight games, so the timing of the news was a bit odd.

There have been questions about whether the Giants should look to move on from Matt Williams as the team's third base coach or Pat Burrell as the hitting coach. While those might be valid concerns, team president of baseball operations Buster Posey is showing confidence in Melvin to make the right call with his option being picked up for next season.
