The MLB All-Star Game is getting closer, and this includes all the festivities that come with it, including the Futures Game. On Wednesday, MLB.Com published its Futures Game roster, with Gavin Kilen and Dakota Jordan headlining the game for the SF Giants.
The game will take place on July 12. This occurs at the same time as the MLB draft, which begins on July 11. The final 16 rounds take place on July 12. The Giants hope to land a cornerstone player with the No. 4 pick, and they should be able to find more talent in the first couple of rounds, as they hold the No. 29 and No. 55 picks.
Shane Victorino and Larry Bowa will manage the Futures Game clubs. Victorino will manage the NL roster, whereas Bowa will oversee the AL roster. Since the All-Star Game is taking place in Philadelphia, legacy Phillies are involved.
The NL roster will feature some of the best prospects in baseball, including Jesús Made of the Milwaukee Brewers. That roster will also include some of the Giants' better prospects in Gavin Kilen and Dakota Jordan.
They also represent some of the club's top picks in recent years. Kilen was the first-round pick in last year's draft, and Jordan was one of the top picks in the 2024 draft. The Giants did not have a second-and-third-round pick in 2024, so Jordan was the second-highest selection. He slid to the Giants, and they felt like they got good value at that pick.
Both SF Giants prospects have performed well in the Northwest League
Kilen and Jordan have helped anchor a Eugene Emeralds lineup that has been one of the best in the Northwest League. Kilen earned his second Northwest League Player of the Week honor last week, and his 60 RBI leads the league.
Overall, he is slashing .288/.360/.468 (121 wRC+) with eight home runs, 60 RBI, and 46 runs in 314 plate appearances. He has a swing designed for line drives and contact. Kilen does not project to add much more raw power, but he uses what he has by pulling the ball in the air with regularity.
On the other hand, Jordan is hitting .271/.330/.468 (110 wRC+) with 12 home runs, 52 RBI, and 39 runs in 315 plate appearances. There were concerns about his contact skills coming out of the draft. He alleviated some of those concerns last year, but his strikeout rate is up to 29.5 percent in 2026.
That said, the right-handed bat has some of the best raw power in the organization, with exit velocities regularly reaching over 110 MPH. The game power does not quite play as loud, as he has a high ground ball rate at 47.9 percent and sprays the ball evenly to all fields. He can hit with power to all fields but does not necessarily maximize his raw power.
Jordan is a fast runner and has been more aggressive on the bases since becoming a pro. He has 15 steals in 17 chances this year. The 23-year-old outfielder has spent most of his time in center field and has the speed and arm to stick.
