One may think that an April game between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves may not have much to do with the SF Giants, but think again. Several former Giants were involved in a brawl between the two teams that began with slugger Jorge Soler charging the mound and throwing punches at pitcher Reynaldo López.

Here is a brief video of the exchange below:

Former SF Giants involved in wild Braves-Angels brawl

It seems Soler, who played for the Giants in 2024, took exception to some pitches that were up and in to him from López and charged the mound. Soler did take Lopez deep in the first inning and has hit homers off him in the past so maybe there's some bad blood between the two.

The benches cleared and both Mike Yastrzemski and Dominic Smith, two other former Giants, were on the bench for the Braves but Yaz can be seen getting into the mix towards the end of the video. Yet another former Giant, Mauricio Dubón, was playing left field for the Braves when the fight broke out and he can be seen running into frame towards the end of the video.

Soler is not exactly the kind of guy you want to get in a fight with so if López was indeed throwing up and in, he is much braver than most.

None of their punches seemed to land so for all of the theatrics it looks like everyone escaped unscathed. Soler and López were both ejected from the game, though.

Soler played for the Giants back in 2024 and was traded to the Atlanta Braves which was the team he was a World Series hero for back in 2021. He never quite lived up to his power potential with the Giants even though he did hit a few absolute bombs, including one grand slam that literally left Wrigley Field.

Yastrzemski and Smith were both with the Giants last season. Yaz was a fan-favorite with San Francisco for years and had a really hot spring training for Atlanta. Smith has been absolutely on fire for the Braves so far this season so some fans have to be missing those guys.

Dubón never found his footing with the Giants and has gone on to be a really solid utility player since departing San Francisco, winning a couple of Gold Gloves.

Thankfully no one got hurt, but it is interesting when a strange brawl that seemingly came out of nowhere in April involves so many familiar faces.
